Cocktail of the Month: Zombie
For now, the Zombie is the closest we come to an abominable brew in the spirit of All Hallows’ Eve. Given our current obsession with vampires, you’d have thought that someone would have developed a suitably monstrous libation by now.
Better yet, why haven’t any modern mixologists created fearsome cocktails inspired by pop culture supervillains? Perhaps a Bane’s Brew or the Two-Face Tonic? Such drinks would presumably be too tough on the palate – two parts tequila to one part nails or cement or something – and would batter both tongue and liver.
The good news about the Zombie is that it’s delicious, and there is no shortage of places in Beijing to drink it. With three types of rum, it provides all the nautical nuisance of the ruthless Blackbeard – not to mention that, cloaked behind the fruity smooth tang of pineapple, papaya and apricot juice, it is as cunning as a Decepticon.
WHERE TO GET IT
Try a Zombie at Kokomo (RMB 50) or 2F (RMB 40). Q Mex does a fiery variation at RMB 60.
