Talking Pints: Brats, Brews, and New Year's News

And so it begins. Chinese New Year parties for those of us left behind here in Beijing might be a good way to pass the week off work. I intend to be pretty sozzled for the majority of it, and luckily there'll be enough to do in town to accommodate me. I'm just looking forward to being able to freewheel around town in cabs I haven't had to wait 15 minutes for on near empty streets. Bliss.

Great Leap Brewing is the first to provide details of their CNY bash. They'll be celebrating the Year of the Snake in collaboration with The Orchid Hotel on Feb 9. Their party gets going from 9pm, and the ale will no doubt be flowing like wine.

So the latest Tease Boutique party was held in Haze in the end. Did you manage to find it? That was a bolt from the blue, but by all accounts it seemed like another ripping success. So good, in fact, that they've already got the fourth edition lined up. It will be held on Feb 2. As usual, venue TBD.

Some other news:

  • Nils Nuernberg will be hitting Haze on Feb 23.
  • Haze have also announced that they'll be welcoming KiNK on April 12.

To a few of this weekend's highlights:

  • Plan B down in Shuangjing will be throwing an Expansion/Australia Day/Chad Lager's Final Farewell Party this Saturday (Jan 26). You should be able to find one of those a good enough reason to get along and enjoy a RMB 15 Tiger or a RMB 100 bottle of Aussie wine. Their expansion includes a new pool table and two darts boards.
  • Tonight sees the start of the Brats and Brews night at Slow Boat Brewery Taproom over in Dongsi. From 5pm they'll be serving Bratwurst with sauerkraut and homemade beer mustard, all of which can be washed down with one of their house ales, of course.
  • On Saturday (Jan 26) Beer Mania will host their first Ad Eaters night. Confused? Well, starting from 8pm they'll show three hours of "interesting, beautiful, funny, vintage, and sexy beer adverts" from around the world. They'll end the night with a prize draw in which they'll give away the first of their new VIP cards which are being launched next month. VIP cards entitle the holder to discounts on food and drink. Will it rival the fabled Den Gold Card?

My personal highlight: Get out somewhere with a big TV tomorrow and cheer on Li Na in the final of the Aussie Open. Here's hoping she can go one further than her previous best as beaten finalist.
