What Does Apple Have in Store for its Beijing Event on Sep 10th?

Beijing has a tumultuous history when it comes to iPhone launches, but Apple continues to see China as a key market in the build-up to the release of its newest iPhone.

According to the Wall Street Journal Apple is planning an event at the China World Trade Center Tower 3 in Beijing next Tuesday, September 1oth – just a few hours after the unveiling of the purported new iPhones 5S and 5C in the US.

Aside from a streamed video of the US iPhone launch, the rest of the agenda for the Beijing event has yet to be confirmed, but there is speculation that there may be an announcement of a new deal that would finally bring Apple iPhones onto the China Mobile network (China’s largest carrier) or that the new iPhones (including a new gold-colored model) will go on sale in China at the same time as it does in the US and other major markets, which would be a first.

Next week’s event will mark the first time that Apple has held a major launch event since last October, when the iPad Mini was unveiled.

According to Bloomberg via today's Sinocism newsletter:

A deal with China Mobil won't be at an Apple event on Sep 1, during which the company is set to unveil new iPhones.

Since it's a foreign brand, it's at a disadvantage. However, the important thing here is that if Apple charges $400 for the iPhone 5C, it's going to be right in the mix with other mid-tier players.
