Beijing Smoking Ban to Extend to Capital International Airport; Shangri-La Opens Qinhuangdao Hotel

Looks like nervous flyers who smoke are about to become more nervous. Beijing's June 1 smoking that essentially covers every building with a roof will also apply to the special smoking rooms inside Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA). We hadn't really thought of that, since the rooms are both closed to the rest of the terminal and specially ventilated to the outside, but apparently they will also be shut to comply with the ban. This author is not a smoker, but yikes, seems a long way from the curb, into check-in, through security, to the gate, then on the plane plus the journey itself before the next puff.

Two more days of air delays can be expected at said soon-to-be-smoke-free airport.

Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts has opened its latest hotel, this time in nearby Qinhuangdao. Thanks to the high-speed train service that we enjoy here, the would-be beachgoer can blaze from the capital to the seashore in one hour and 45 minutes, with the new hotel about 15 minutes from the station. Featuring 330 rooms, the hotel has an indoor swimming pool and a spa. That's Shangri-La's 43rd hotel in China (excluding Hong Kong and Taiwan), with 11 more on the way. Busy people over there at Shangri-La.

This if implemented seriousely should work. Many chinese offices have conference room or a room dedicated to smoking. Our office has closed this room and this has helped smokers smoke less as they have to go out of the office and smoke. I think this will work if implemented strictly.

Didn't they close the smoking rooms after the introduction of the last 'ban'? I'm sure I remember them being locked up for a bit before reopening.
