Megadeth to Rock Beijing's Socks Off at Tango, May 14

Ok Beijingers, get ready to grow out your hair and head bang to the mightiest of heavy metal riffs.

Yes, to the delight of any and all rock-appreciating Beijingers, California metal kings Megadeth will be performing at Tango on May 14. 

Founded in LA in 1983, the hard-hitting band are credited as thrash pioneers who never feared touching on controversial topics like Satanism (well, until Mustaine became a born again Christian), nuclear warfare, and were borne out of frontman Dave Mustaine's desire to avenge his untimely dismissal from Metallica, who just so happened to come by Beijing back in January. Megadeth are not only highly regarded and influential, but also a commercial juggernaught, having sold more than 50 million albums around the globe.

Despite having been in the business for more than three decades, the band has remained relevant and prolific, recording 15 studio albums. The latest album in Megadeth's arsenal is the Grammy winning Dystopia, which came out last year and was described by one critic as "an absolutely blistering return to the state-of-the-art bombast and refined technicality of past glories like Rust in Peace and Endgame."

Any Beijing music buffs that are still reeling from the joy of seeing Metallica are sure to be enthralled at the news of this second thrash-rife gig. We can only hope that this gig goes more smoothly than Megadeth's last Beijing stop in 2015, during which the band was abruptly and controversially silenced an hour into their set by anti-fun officials.

Regular standing tickets are RMB 980, while second floor tickets are RMB 1,180, and both go on sale at 3pm today (March 24); click here to purchase (the webpage is in Chinese).

VIP tickets are RMB 1,880, and there are only 50 available. The sale for VIP tickets started at 10am today (March 24), and there's more information on that, the regular tickets and the show in general (Chinese only) here.

Not in China. During their last China show, Megadeth was banned from playing many of their songs like Holy Wars, Skin of My Teeth and Master of Puppets, reduced to just playing instrumental versions of them.

So whatever his opinions, you're not going to hear any controversy. And who wants that when paying almost 2K RMB for a ticket? It's not as though people enjoy paying exorbitant amounts of money to see a big name like Wang Fei just so they can brag about how unenjoyable it was the next day.

And yet he feels the need for people to know his views and puts himself in positions that publicise his opinions. We may be able to objectively appreciate the art produced by people whom we're diametrically opposed to but for me it taints the shit out of enjoying it fully.

For those who like to mix their entertainment with a little bit of politics, it's probably worth pointing out that Dave Mustaine's opinion on topics such as gay marriage would paint him as a homophobe, as well as a proto-Trump supporter given that in 1988 he said that he'd "build a great wall along the Mexican border and not let anybody in ..." if he were President of the United States. Mustaine's also a fanboy of Alex Jones, a fact in itself egregious enough to avoid this money grab.
