Kit Yourself Out at These 5 Great Independent Beijing Boutiques

Tired of shopping at the same, boring major brands around town? Why not step away from the malls and update your wardrobe with something altogether more unique from one of Beijing's smaller, independent boutiques? We've listed just a few of our favorites below, spanning a variety of styles and budgets.

Naivete (纯真)
This chic boutique (pictured at top) on Jianchang Hutong, a few steps south of Wudaoying Hutong, stocks fashionable pieces in a serene setting. The owner is a stylist and designer as well as a skilled weaver, who makes her own beautiful fabrics, including hats from paper and tussah silk. The compact and minimalist space is also home to a collection of small-run and handmade clothes, accessories, bags, as well as homeware collected from artisans around the city. Follow their WeChat (ID: naivete-pure) for details on occasional get-togethers and DIY classes.

Mianma Wuyu (棉麻物语)
Mianma Wuyu is packed with trendy Japanese clothing on account of the manager regularly visiting independent shops in Japan and stuffing a suitcase full of their finds. The shop therefore offers a truly singular range of handpicked collection of high-quality clothes, and the well-lit space and friendly owner makes browsing a truly pleasant experience.

Vintage Store at Camera Stylo
Located on the second floor of one of our favorite hutong hangout venues Camera Stylo, this small shop offers a selection of vintage clothes, accessories, and bags. The owner is a massive fan of vintage and travels around the world to find the perfect garments and knick-knacks to complete any look.

Heyan’er (布言布语)
Not far from Sanlitun's shopping mecca of Taikoo Li sits Heyan'er, an independent store with no interest in pandering to the mass consumerist tastes nearby. Instead, their racks are stocked with quality, well-designed women’s wear, including tunics, dresses, and trousers, with a strong focus on traditional Chinese garments and styles.

Naqu Shui Yue Dian 那曲·水月店
Located in the middle of the tourist and selfie-rife shopping hub of Wudaoying Hutong, Naqu Shui Yue Dian is a bright and chic boutique, featuring limited-edition women’s wear. It's also not cheap, with many of the pieces ringing in at RMB 2,500 and up, making it more fitting for well-heeled fashionistas looking for one-off pieces to add to their wardrobe.
