Nov 8-30: Celebration of roast goose at Brotzeit

In celebration of Saint Martin's Day on Nov 11, the European festival marking the funeral of Saint Martin of Tours, German restaurant Brotzeit is offering a special roast goose menu from Nov 8-30. Saint Martin of Tours was a Roman soldier who was baptized as an adult and became a bishop in a French town. The connection to goose apparently comes from a legend that tells of how Saint Martin hid in a goose pen when he was trying to avoid being ordained bishop but was given away by the geese honking (but don't quote us on that). Alternatively, it could just be that November is the time of year when geese are at their plumpest. The menu is priced at RMB 198 per person for three courses – goose consommé, oven-roasted goose with potato dumplings and red cabbage, and warm chocolate cake with red wine-poached pear – with the option to add a German wine pairing for RMB 128 per person. Available at Brotzeit Grand Summit and Brotzeit China World Mall.

Wagas and Baker & Spice partner with OmniPork

Wagas and Baker & Spice have partnered with US faux meat company OmniPork to create a series of plant-based dishes. OmniPork is a plant-based pork analog made of non-GMO soy, peas, rice, and shiitake mushrooms. Delivering 12.7g of protein per serving, it has fewer calories and fat than pork but more dietary fiber, calcium, and iron. Wagas is offering a "Flexitarian Future Bolognese" (RMB 65) with spaghetti in a tomato and OmniPork sauce, while Baker & Spice is offering a bibimbap-style power bowl (RMB 70) featuring OmniPork, zucchini, spinach, pickles, grilled corn, spicy Korean sauce, and egg, which you can ask to be left out if you want it vegan.

Nov 13: Seasonal tartiflette at Bistro 108

Fend off the increasingly chillier weather with some proper Alpine stodge this week at Bistro 108, where they will serve tartiflette. This dish from the Savoy region of France is made with potatoes, onions, diced bacon, and lashings of melted Reblochon cheese. Bistro 108's tartiflette, which features a full 250g of Reblochon, is priced at RMB 188 including a glass of mulled wine. Expect them to have more winter specials coming up.
