OlymPicks: Beijing's Ice Ribbon Opens to the Public

In OlymPicks, we highlight the news, gossip, and developments following the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and beyond.

On the Jul 9, the National Speed Skating Oval (also known as the Ice Ribbon) used during the Beijing Winter Olympics opened its doors to the public for the first time.

Aiming to produce the “fastest ice” while keeping things environmentally friendly, the Ice Ribbon’s ice track is 400 meters long and has one of the smoothest ice surfaces.

The rink opens at 9am daily, you can buy tickets for 1.5 hours of ice-filled fun for RMB 120.

You don’t need to make reservations beforehand; you can buy tickets at the rink. But make sure you have nucleic acid test results with a validity of 72 hours or less, a requirement to enter.

There are ice skates, helmets, kneepads, and elbow pads available for rent if you don’t have your own. There are also plastic seals that help beginners take their first steps on ice, so don’t worry if you’re not a professional skater—the rink is beginner friendly!
