Steam Bear Brings Good Craft Beer to Beijing By Way of Henan

There’s a new addition to the craft beer bars of the capital, and they’re bringing their brews – ranging from classic wheats, lagers and pilsners to more out there flavors like passion fruit or mango – to Beijing by way of Henan. Their name is Steam Bear.

Located along Dongzhimen Waixiaojie, Steam Bear is a stone’s throw away from spots like Paddy O’Shea’s, and Sanlitun isn’t too far away either.

Besides beer, they offer a wide variety of food, from burgers to pizza and fries and chicken wings. They’ve also got some nice Chinese snacks that pair well with a cold one – including chuan’r and spicy Sichuan chicken.

The layout of the space is something that just might draw people in as well: It’s dominant red tones might remind some of previous Beijing establishments like Boxing Cat or Little Monsters. The walls are decorated with a range of funny slogans as well (“We are not familiar with average beer” reads one). The same goes for their glasses, which feature the Chinese phrase “Drinking beer voluntarily.”

For sports fans, it’s also worth mentioning they have a nice big screen TV, and they plan on screening some World Cup 2022 matches. They’ve also got a nice terrace as well, which you can enjoy before temperatures start to drop too far.

Steam Bear may be from Henan, but their homely feel and great beer are more than welcome up here in Beijing.
