In-House Dining Gradually Returning But 48 Hour Covid Test Still Required

It looks like Beijing has been granted a Christmas miracle with reports of many restaurants across the capital finally being allowed to resume in-house dining. This follows a wave of other measures being relaxed such as negative NAT results with 48-hours vailidity no longer being required to take buses and the subway or to enter some public spaces such as supermarkets.

However, as of press time, negative 48-hour Covid test result is still required to enter restaurants and with the recent closures of many of Beijing’s testing sites just how you’re supposed to be able to get a test remains to be seen. Though here at the Beijinger we’re currently compiling an updated list of testing sites that will hopefully help.

There has been no official announcement saying that the in-house dining ban has been lifted, in the same way that there was no official blanket ban on in-house dining either, they sure do like to keep us on our toes. Instead, it seems that restaurants are being individually told that they are now allowed to resume in-house dining.

Along with the 48-hour test requirement, a number of restaurants have informed us that they also need to keep in-house dining at 50 percent capacity, but again this appears to be on a case-by-case basis. Still, it’s looking like good news for restaurants and foodies alike and we’ll be sure to keep you updated of any new changes as soon as possible.

Here’s our current list of restaurants that, as of press time, have been allowed to resume in-house dining.  Please note that due to the situation changing by the hour this this list doesn't reflect all current openings in Beijing. It’s best to call ahead to any restaurant you intend on visiting to check just what the situation is.
