New Sandwich Shops, Burger Joints & More to Try

Besides geeking out last week over a new American Chinese place in Sanyuanqiao (read about it here), there have been quite a few new sandwich and burger shops on our radar as of late. Because what’s a better vehicle for eating food than two slices of bread?

Well, besides a tortilla in the case of tacos, but that’s sort of a sandwich in its own little way when you think about it.

Anyways, without further ado, here’s this week’s list of places you should definitely check out.

BigEats Sandwiches & Double O’s Bagels

We first heard about BigEats and Double O’s earlier this year when the owner kept teasing them in her WeChat moments. Every time we’d ask her when it was opening, all we’d get is “not yet” in reply. The big day finally arrived last week, and we headed up to 798 to check the shops out. While Double O’s is bagels of all kinds of varieties – with damn good cream cheese to boot – BigEats does one thing: corned beef sandwiches. This sandwich comes piled high with beef, worth a trip to 798 alone for a meal. While the RMB 128 price tag is a bit of a setback, it’s worth trying out. That being said, we wouldn’t blame you if you were dissuaded.

The owner also has a doughnut shop, Poke Donuts, in the works. We’ll be back up there to try it out once it opens.

Disco Burger

The first of the new burger slingers on our list is situated smack dab in the middle of The Place. An odd mishmash of retro American design and “Street Culture” plastered all over the place – is “Street Culture” within a giant mushroom cloud being watched by cartoon suburbanites in lawn chairs some sort of metaphor? – they serve one thing and one thing only: burgers, with about six to choose from.

There’s the Classic American Street Burger (RMB 39.9/single, RMB 54.9/double), the Hawaiian Heatwave Burger (RMB 49.9), and even the oddball American Superstar Burger (RMB 49.9) which comes slathered in red dragon fruit sauce.

Wudaoying No. 35

Another burger and coffee place comes to Wudaoying up near Andingmen. Much like the legendary He Burger, this place does look to be pretty sleek, with metal signs bearing its name – which is pretty much the restaurant’s address – offering everything from coffee to salads to cheeseburgers and snacks.

Triple B 3B

This new brunch spot located east of CCTV Headquarters has a pretty eclectic menu. They’ve got burgers, sandwiches, a breakfast burrito, French Toast, and even their own take on an English Breakfast. All of this within the confines of their non-descript shop with CBD skyscrapers towering overhead.

Persian Palace

Having taken up shop in Sanlitun SOHO not long ago, Persian Palace offers Middle Eastern cuisine with the mission of providing organic foods, authentic flavors, and the ability to customize food for those on keto or other types of diets. Along with a wide array of kebabs, falafel, and other goodies, the restaurant also has a nice terrace overlooking SOHO. It's a great place for an evening shisha and snacks.
