Get Your Hot Cross Bun Fix for Easter From These Spots

Today is Good Friday in the Christian calendar, which means it's time to stuff yourself with hot cross buns – it is tradition after all! While many places in Beijing are serving hot cross buns as part of an Easter brunch, there are also numerous spots to buy or order them from here in the capital. From traditional hot cross buns to luxurious chocolate varieties, there's no shortage of options to satisfy those cravings.

The Bake Shop

Baochao Hutong's The Bake Shop is now selling hot cross buns, and they even have a post with tips on how to eat them (personally, slathered in butter is the only way). They have classic hot cross buns available in batches of six, which can be bought in-store or through their WeChat store (scan the QR code below to order). Hot tip: Their hot cross buns tend to sell out pretty quickly each day, so it's best to order them early!

Comptoirs De France

French bakery chain Comptoirs De France has classic hot cross buns on offer both in-store and via waimai. Here you can purchase them individually, so it's a great option if you're looking to celebrate Easter by indulging in just one or two hot cross buns rather than gorging on a whole batch.

They also have a range of other special Easter treats on offer, such as chocolate eggs and rabbits, which are perfect for children (or adults – embrace your inner child!) Simply search for Comptoirs De France on your preferred waimai app to order. You may need to search for the Chinese name (法派1855 fǎpài 1855) for it to come up. Alternatively, go to one of their many branches in Beijing.

Mary Sweets

On offer at online bakery Mary Sweets are Luxury Fruited Hot Cross Buns that come with a separate orange glaze on the side for you to slather on at home as well as Extremely Chocolatey Hot Cross Buns. Both are available to order in batches of six by scanning the QR code above, and if you're feeling extra indulgent, you can even add on cream cheese frosting. They also have a range of other Easter products available, like a DIY Easter cookie set and some spectacular-looking Easter cakes.

Breakfast Champion

In their own words, Breakfast Champion has "spent a while perfecting these beauties," so you know these hot cross buns are going to be good. Keeping things simple, they just have traditional hot cross buns available in batches of six. Plus, if you're looking for the perfect, or perhaps more unusual, way to enjoy a hot cross bun, you can have a look at some of Breakfast Champion's recommendations here.
