New Capital Airport Services Target International Travelers

The official WeChat account of Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA, aka PEK) recently published a list of 16 service measures across five major categories that have been or will be undertaken to improve Beijing’s standing as a destination for inbound tourism.

Here are the most notable from that list.

First Cross-Airline International Regional Round-Trip Flights Launching Soon

Air China, Air Macau, and Capital International Airport will launch their first cross-airline international and regional connecting flights, providing services for passengers traveling between Beijing and Macau.

Beijing Service – the Airport’s Comprehensive Service Center

At the beginning of this year, Beijing Service service points launched at both Beijing Capital International Airport and Daxing International Airport, providing one-stop services for foreign passengers, including foreign bank card cash withdrawal, SIM card processing, cultural and tourism reservations and transportation assistance

One-Stop Online English Service

The Capital Airport has launched an official English version of its mini program and app, providing over 40 functions for foreign passengers, including flight information, airport WiFi connection, entry policy information, a transit guide, and Beijing tourism information. Search for the 北京首都机场 mini program and toggle the language to English.

 

Newly Launched Integrated Luggage Service

There are a total of seven integrated baggage service counters at the Capital International Airport. They provide one-stop pickup services, luggage packing, storage, and door-to-door luggage services. Foreign passengers who comply with the 240-hour transit visa-free policy can enjoy free storage of single luggage for up to three days (inclusive) with their passport.

More Efficient Inbound Customs Clearance

The airport has implemented a “dual row inspection” model, reducing passenger waiting time. There is a special area for processing temporary entry permits and providing one-stop issuance and processing services.

International and Regional Electronic Boarding Pass Services

Nineteen routes operated by 13 airlines, including Air China, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, Lufthansa, and United Airlines, have launched international and regional electronic boarding pass services. The Hong Kong route has achieved full coverage of electronic boarding pass services.

24-Hour Dining

Twenty-one 24-hour airport shops have opened online booking, in-store packaging, and self-pickup services through the Gourmet Food Boarding Pass mini program (美食登机牌).

Direct Bus to Universal Studios

A direct bus from the airport to Universal Studios began service Aug 5.

Half-Day Beijing trips

In collaboration with Ctrip, the airport has upgraded their inbound travel services. On the basis of a free half-day trip to Beijing, they have tailored a service package for short-term inbound and visa-free transit tourists that includes multiple exclusive coupons, such as flight tickets, hotels, and tickets.
