I don't use Uber, but I often overhear people answering calls from Uber drivers. Without exaggeration, every one ends up saying "I'm where the GPS says I am. Just look at the GPS pin. No. Just look where the pin is." They are speaking in Chinese when they say this, and most often very clearly - presumably because they've had a lot of practice with those exact words.
Is there some superstition or bias against GPS use in Beijing?
There must be some reason, because I literally ALWAYS have to say "I am where I said I am."

I rarely put less than 5 stars, but I should start removing when they don't even try to find me on the map and call right away (once the guy was just 500m away in the same street.
I was disapointed lately by Uber's answer to my complains: In the past they've sent me 5-10 rmb when I mentioned there was no seat belt (I didn't even expect money), but when I gave 1 star to a driver because he had an small accident, and drove away the scene with us inside the car (resulting in a longer trip too), they basically just said "Oh ok, sorry".
is any one sure its buss 852 . its beautiful weather and i cant find just 852 850 . over and over and many others ... makes me mad maybe its not running today over dragon boat festival or something okay i just found the 852 buss is over a block from the station .ill try again
I find nachos worldwide to be an abomination. Too much shit all globbed onto a pile of chips that means no matter how you slice it, you have a rim of plain tortilla chips with nothing on them around a center mass of soggy garbage that always has too much of this and not enough of that. Me and my anal retentive kind much prefer a mound of plain tortilla chips and all the stuff on the side for dipping.
In over 10 years here I have yet to enjoy the perfect nachos. Not in Beijing, not in Shanghai. These restaurants' refusal to put enough cheese or sourcream on and within their chips is just bizarre. Even the foreign-run places can't get it right. I did enjoy this CultureTrip post about chasing the perfect nachos in China http://theculturetrip.com/asia/china/articles/the-best-nachos-in-shanghai/ though none that I tried here ever looked this good.
Honestly, my favorite nachos in Beijing are at Pebbles Courtyard. Not a single nacho left without topping, and plenty of guacamole on the veggie rendition.
And of course, for those interetsed in traditional culture and kung fu, it might be worth mentioning that Cultural Keys and CK Martial Hearts will be having it's next Shaolin Temple Kung Fu Retreat in August. 7 or 14 days to experience life and learn kung fu at one of the most iconic locations in China.
Recognizing, of course, that all answers to such questions will be "Oh, only 10 minutes from the subway", "Yes, of course it's soundproof", "No, there aren't any leaks/roaches/cracks"... "This apartment will meet all the needs you have ever had and if you have any that it doesn't meet, then you're just not thinking clearly and might need to adjust your expectations."
Updates: the exhibition is for free now, you can just walk in after scan some QR code and visit the whole exhibition. I went there last weekend, and it was amazing.
I was originally skeptical of Q Mex's burger prowess -- why would I go to a Mexican restaurant for a burger? But I can honestly say I was surprised how good it was. I recently went for their 2-for-1 burger special and found the cheeseburger great.
Slow Boat's is also decent too -- and unique in the market.
Really? Is this the best you could do Beijing? I go to Slow Boat and Q-Mex often, I really enjoy those places but not for the burgers. Slow Boat has, in my opinion, some of the best craft beer in Beijing and Q-Mex is an excellent choice to grab drinks with friends and catch a match. That being said we're voting on one place that uses frozen, pre-formed beef patties they buy from a place that uses cheap cuts and scraps to churn out beef patties to half the restaurants across Beijing and a bun, frozen french fries and processed cheese you can walk in and get from any Jenny Lou's. Go look at thebeijinger article "putting together" Slow Boat's fryburger http://www.thebeijinger.com/blog/2016/05/13/putting-together-slow-boats-fryburger, it's a joke because there is nothing to deconstruct, it's all mass produced stuff which can make a decent burger but the best burger in the city? Really Beijing? The other option is a Q-Mex burger that I can only describe as having a "funky" (though not entirely unpleasant, just odd) flavor to the meat patty and to cover it up they melt a lot of processed cheese on the burger, seriously, with all the melted processed cheese and mayo on their burger it's what I'd guess eating glue feels like. I have a hard time accepting these 2 sling the finest burgers in Beijing. Again, I like both these places for reasons other than their burgers, it just seems odd that either of them should be in the final, maybe the voting system should be amended for next year?

I'm glad you had a pleasant experience aboard Hong Kong Airlines. Mine wasn't quite so stellar.

Re: Talking Travel: The All Hong Kong Edition
Got the information from a flight I took that had none of the above. Just an old plane and bad luck, I guess.
Re: Wood You Dig This? Bland Nachos But Impressive Tiramisu...
I would have sent that shit back! 58rmb for a couple handfuls of chips and a couple table spoons of pico?..haha yeah.
"Can you take this back to the kitchen and tell the chef/owner to come out here a kiss my ass" lol
Re: Wood You Dig This? Bland Nachos But Impressive Tiramisu...
That's why the best nachos are individually loaded - like at Chili's.
Also, has anyone else heard an urban legend about some bar in Beijing that serves its nachos topped with mustard instead of cheese?
