US President Barack Obama is in China and currently visiting our fair city – the first US President to set foot in China since Clinton came back in 1998.
What about all the times George W. Bush came here, such as during the Olympics?
If you have erased the man from your memory, please tell me how!
As a university student Sculpting in Time is truly a God-send. The atmosphere is so relaxing. One can snuggle up on the overstuffed chairs and sofas why sipping away on expertly crafted drinks. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating, never rushing you out or trying to make you hurry. Sculpting in Time gives most American coffee shops a run for their money.
There's got to be a story behind the story -- RMB 500,000 in debt doesn't sound like a whole heck of a lot for an establishment that size -- hell I'll bet their rent was close to that each month
These events are every Tuesday until further notice. There are also wine events this Thursday for Beaujolais Nouveau arriving in Beijing. Look out for a round-up of these events on Thursday morning on the blog.
They had really nice stuff in the deli/cafe area. But way, way too expensive. If their coffee, pizza sandwiches etc had been better priced they would have had tons of people going in for lunch every day - as it was I never really saw it get busy.
Also, the whole "massive building completely full of Italian restaurants/cafes" concept seemed hugely overblown.
Atmosphere for sure - whether it's the grumpy locals or strange apothecary of a bartender ... I think perhaps also because it's a state-owned enterprise of which there used to be many more. And the interior is entirely retro. It certainly felt "special" for me when I was there. Could be the booze, though.
I appreciate that it hearkens back to way back when....but what does this place have that a thousand others don't?
They may serve the baij by the glass....but most people just bring their own to most places, or you can buy a bottle there, or just buy those kou-bei thingies.
Tip: Kou-bei mixed with sprite goes pretty well with the type of food described in this article.
Yes - as a Shuangjing resident, I'm glad there are more options in the area, including your place and Lily's. I'm also happy to introduce your businesses to our readers on this site.
It's also nice to see you feel confident about your business, more power to you if you can keep it up. You're brash. You're full of bravado. You got swagga -- we get it.
But do keep one thing in mind: People are fickle and your fortunes can change very quickly in this town - often due to circumstances beyond your control.

Re: Rest In Piazza? Big Scandal in Little Italy

Re: Alleyway Gourmet: Beijing's Oldest Baijiu Bar
Allow me to clarify that I meant the Mongolian Kou Bei, not the nasty ergotou or other brands.
Re: Swine Flu Vaccine Now Available

This is unfortunate.
Re: The Brick: Solid Fun in Shuangjing
for the record: i'm hoping both the brick and lily's survive and thrive -- and attract other businesses of their type.
dammit if another fricking hair salon or real estate agency opens up around there I'm going to puke.
