Maovember Charity Event Set for 2015 Return

After a humble beginning in 2013 that raised more than RMB 20,000, local charity event Maovember exploded in 2014 when it generated over RMB 100,000 in donations for eye health organization Orbis, with every RMB 800 raised representing cataract surgery for one recipient in rural China. As it gears up again, we spoke to Maovember co-founder and prime mover Jim Boyce about its roots and the plan for this year.

Kipp's Picks: Neon Zoo, Dim Sum Disco, Club Paradise, and Sulumi

It’s almost like the holiday week never ended with this more than decent grouping of events ready to set things off this weekend. Yeah, we all probably have to work on Saturday, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t get groovy with your buddies on Saturday.

Eight Ways to Protect Your Living Spaces from Bad Air

This is probably not the weather from which you wanted to return from a holiday. Anyway, a nasty pollution spell is blanketing the capital, and here are a few practical tips to battle bad air while you are in Beijing, especially when it comes to air filters and other anti-pollution devices.

What's New Venue: TopShop

What can we say about Topshop? It is one of the most coveted, moderately-priced fashion outlets on the planet and until now Beijing has been sadly deprived of their hip threads. While there has been an on and off series of pop-up shops in 798 and Dazhalan over the past couple of years, there has yet to be a perpetually open storefront you can visit any day of the week, and get decked out in the same hip threads as Kate Moss or the Duchess of Cambridge.

First Night of Megadeth's Dystopia Tour Comes to Abrupt End in Beijing

Megadeth's opening night of its Dystopia tour ended abruptly after only an hour in what seemed to be an abbreviated set by the American metal band in Beijing.

Signs indicate that the performance at the MasterCard Center's Huiyuan Space may have been shortened or stopped by officials. For example, one well-known Megadeth track, "Skin of My Teeth," was played instrumental instead of with its usual lyrics.

Speed Racer: Daredevil Arrested for Lapping 2nd Ring in 14 minutes

Ever been stuck in endless Second Ring Road traffic and daydream about hopping on a chopper and hightailing it out of there at record speed? Keep that fantasy in check: a biker was detained on Saturday for rocketing around the 34km (21 mile) circular roadway at an average speed of 237 km/h (147 mph), lapping it in a dizzying 14 minutes.
