Talking Pints: Chinese New Year Parties, and Those Braving the Week Off

As the working week winds down and we all get into the holiday spirit, it's time for a quick round-up of the week's happenings and a look at what's coming up during our week off work.

Details of various Chinese New Year celebrations continue to roll in:

  • Q Bar will be welcoming in the Year of the Snake with some Chinese thyme cocktails as well as dishing out the dumplings.
  • Black Sun will also be hosting a New Year party on Saturday. They'll have a Happy Hour between 1 and 9pm. And of course, the obligatory jiaozi on the house after 10pm. This coming Tuesday also marks the return of the Black Sun quiz.
  • Brussels will have three hours of free-flow as well as a fireworks display.

Check our events section for details of other Chinese New Year parties happening around town this weekend.

Some bars have been in touch to let us know that they'll be closing, or running skeleton staff through the holidays, but a number of places are keeping it business as usual. Plan B have been in touch to say they'll be open all week, as will the Slow Boat Brewery Taproom.

A second batch of Great Leap's collaboration brew with Shanghai's Boxing Cat Brewery, The Yunnan Amber, will be tapped at Great Leap Brewing on Monday (Feb 11).

The Syndicate crew have given us details about their next Syndicate Sessions bash. It's to be at Dada on March 23 and will feature sets by DJs Blackie, Kay C, Clir, Donkey Tonk, Marsko and Elemental. A night not to be missed for the dubstep afficionado.

A quick look at some upcoming highlights:

Happy Chinese New Year to you. See you in a week.
