Capital Bites: Agua and Mosto Team Up, Plus Discounted Bento Boxes

Last month, Nali Patio saw a series of celebrations with both Mosto and Agua enjoying their fifth anniversaries. Next Tuesday, December 10 and Wednesday, December 11, the two are joining forces in a duo of evenings called "Food with Friends" with special set menus for RMB 398. Mosto is also instituting a new and expanded lunch concept this month, with more options for starters, mains and desserts. The new additions are all culled from Chef Urdaneta's new winter menu, including soups like South American chicken soup, a mushroom soup with shiitake, a winter white bean soup with chorizo and some hearty winter fare for the mains like grilled tenderloin steak with pumpkin and sautéed kale or rack of lamb with shiitake & black truffle rice with toasted tomatoes & rosemary sauce. The price point remains the same at RMB 95 for two courses and RMB 110 for three. I'm off to try it in the next few days and will report back.

Flamme has a new menu for the cold season. They are pretty ace at all things beef so their new braised bone-in short rib (500g, RMB 258) with mashed potatoes probably merits a try. There's even a citrus salad to balance it out if that seems a little heavy for you. I also like the idea of their vegetarian dishes – a warm pumpkin salad with feta cheese and hazelnuts (RMB 48) and an eggplant "Napoleon" (RMB 58) – a layered vegetable creation augmented, as all delicious things are, by cheese.

Holiday season is in full swing already (which is crazy if you ask me) and Obentos is spreading the good cheer by offering a 20 percent discount in-store on their best-selling bento box (teriyaki salmon) and salad (zen chicken salad). This applies only for loyalty card holders, so 'tis the season to be faithful – or at least, start doing so.
