Tongzhou Universal Studios Construction to Commence this Year

Get ready Beijing, because this year construction will actually genuinely start on the Universal Studios in Tongzhou District following November's official announcement ceremony (complete with pictures of dreadfully important looking men in serious suits). Take that Shanghai and your precious Disneyland Resort.

The park was originally set to open in January of 2018, as we mentioned in October last year, but will now not be completed until 2019. Total spending on the park has also sky-rocketed, with the park allegedly attracting nearly USD 8 billion worth of investment.

The park will be the first Universal Studios in the world to include a Universal-themed resort hotel, according to Xinhua news, and will have Chinese influences to attract both domestic and foreign visitors. If you are super keen, a self-proclaimed theme park expert, ‘The Theme Park Guy,’ has been posting pictures of the construction, or demolishing at this stage, as it has been happening.

How Universal Studio's attempt at a Beijing theme park will compare to China's very own Eternity Passage is yet to be seen. Watch this space for a head-to-head if they ever open.
