Beijing to Build New Train Station North of Chang'an Jie
Beijing plans to build a new Beijing North train station somewhere north of Chang'an Jie, the Beijing government announced.
Because Beijing's other major railway stations are all south of the city's main east-west thoroughfare, it's seen as creating a traffic problem, sending numerous passengers from points in the northern part of the city to catch trains in the south.
Apparently Xizhimen was considered as a candidate site, but was ruled out given that the area is already significantly congested.
The Beijing municipal government did not specify a final location for the new station. The station may be part of a new Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei inter-city railway.
