Celebrate Eight-Years-Strong With One of Beijing’s Best Sushi Restaurants This Saturday
Where’s your favorite place for sushi in Beijing? Yotsuba? Hatsune? Both are valid choices, but we would have to make the case for diminutive sushi restaurant Midorikawa, which has been quietly doing business in Sanlitun for eight years. According to their official WeChat, the restaurant is celebrating its eighth anniversary with deals on sake and sushi this Saturday, August 13. Not that we foodies ever need an excuse, but this is a great opportunity to try an under-the-radar restaurant.
Eponymous Chef Midorikawa Yoshiteru flies fresh fish in from Tokyo several times a week, and for their anniversary celebrations he is pulling out all the stops with deals on that most luxurious cut of fish – toro, or fatty tuna. Prices start from RMB 60 for a single piece of tuna nigiri, up to RMB 400 for a plate of kama-toro, a rare (and delicious) cut of fatty tuna taken from behind the jaw instead of the belly. Wash that down with two bottles of Midorikawa Junmai Daiginjo for just RMB 880.
Spend a minimum of RMB 1,800 on the night and you will get a free dessert of Yubari King melon from Hokkaido. Before you say “pah, melon, what’s that worth?” note that these are one of the most expensive fruits in the world; in 2016 a supermarket bought a perfect pair of melons (steady on) at auction for JPY 3 million … that’s around RMB 200,000 to you and me.
Expensive melons or no, be sure to make a reservation in advance as this place fills up fast.
