The British Are Coming! New Brit-Themed Outlet Set to Bring Authentic Brands to Beijing

"By jove!" is about to be the new refrain of Beijing shoppers this December. That's because a new outlet called The British House, set to open near Tiananmen Square, plans to sell top-notch British lifestyle, homeware, and fashion items from beloved imported UK brands like Turnbull & Asser, Liberty, Aspinal of London, Johnstons of Elgin, Sunuva, and Rachel Riley.

An October 11 article in the Retail Gazette described the soon to be opened shop as a 13,000-square-feet (1,208sqm) showroom modeled after – what else? – a London townhouse.

And while the store's aesthetic may be deeply rooted in British tradition, its owners want to delivery the most modern of conveniences to shoppers. Patrons can scan the products they like at the store before purchasing them online with tablets that ensure the products are shipped straight to their Beijing abodes all the way from the UK within a headspinning eight to 11 days (though hopefully many of those items will also be available for good old-fashioned physical purchases, to satisfy the inklings of less tech savy customers).

The owners hope the store will be a smashing success in Beijing, which the Gazette describes as the capital with a ravenous appetite for all things British. The article went on to quote UK managing director of The British House Jamie Powell as saying: "We are recruiting brands as we go and we plan on rolling the concept out across China and Asia ... It is a whole new retail experience for the area.”
