EAT: New Menu at Q Mex Taqueria, Hatsune's Seasonal Hot Pot, Hatchery Turns Three

EAT: Your bite-sized guide to the best eats to be had in Beijing this week.

New Menu at Q Mex Taqueria

Q Mex Taqueria has introduced a host of new dishes, adding plenty of Mexican classics to their already bulging menu. Start with snacks such as quesadillas and sopes (small, lightly-fried cakes made of ground masa, pictured above) and move onto main courses such as grilled chile-rubbed lamb chops and grilled spicy cheese sausage. We've got our eye on the Taqueria bowls, a riff on the burrito bowl that looks like it will make a very good lunch. At the same time, it seems like Taqueria has dropped their brunch menu, although they have kept their weekend all-you-can-drink special, which is priced at RMB 188 per person for three hours of unlimited margaritas, sangria, and Prosecco.

Winter Hot Pot Specials at Hatsune

With temperatures dropping, head to Hatsune to warm up with one of their two hot pot specials: Shinkai sukiyaki or kimchi nabe. The sukiyaki (RMB 245), a dish that originated during the Meiji period, features a rich broth made from premium beef, while the kimchi nabe (RMB 228) has a broth flavored with sliced beef and skipjack tuna, served complete with a variety of fresh vegetables including red spinach and exotic, fresh mushrooms. Both types of hot pot are available at all Hatsune branches in Beijing (if you happen to be in Shanghai, there are a number of specials available at Hatsune branches there, too).

Help Hatchery Choose How to Celebrate Turning Three

Hatchery is turning three in December and they are asking us, the people, to help them decide how to celebrate. Everything's up for grabs: from what format the party should take to which dishes from their many successful pop-up concepts they should serve. Take the survey here (it only takes a few minutes) and be in with a chance of winning at RMB 500 voucher. The winner will be announced at their crowd-sourced anniversary party on Dec 7 – more details on that when we get them.
