EAT: Tribe's New Summer Menu, Daily Deals at Daruma, New Brunch Dishes at The Georg

EAT: Your bite-sized guide to the best eats to be had in Beijing this week.

Tribe Launches New Summer Menu, Holds Superfoods Dinner

Tribe has launched a selection of summery new dishes, including salads, smoothie bowls, and (comparatively) healthy desserts. The dishes are designed to help you beat the summer heat and are full of seasonal ingredients like zucchini, as well as tropical fruit like mangoes and pineapples, which even make it into the savory dishes. Speaking of fruit, we were big fans of the "Sun's Out Gun's Out" grilled nectarine salad (pictured above), which also features mozzarella, avocado, and hefty hunks of grilled corn. Keen Instagrammers will love the coconut yogurt smoothie bowls (as delicious as they are photogenic – try the bright blue "Life is Beachy"), but if you're looking for something more substantial, don't sleep on the seafood paella, which uses healthy mixed grains as the base instead of the usual white rice.

This week, on Thursday, Jun 27, Tribe is teaming up with international chef Raul Liu to put on a one-off creative dinner with a menu stuffed with superfoods. Chef Liu has created menus for restaurants in Beijing, Shanghai, Canada, and beyond, and likes to create dishes that are as healthy as they are delicious. He will be creating an eight-course menu for Tribe including dishes like tomato and duck confit pie with balsamic caviar (pictured above) and smoked Canadian grass-fed beef tartare poke bowl. The meal costs RMB 888 per person or RMB 1,588 for two. Find more details here.

Daily Deals and Weekday Lunch Sets at Daruma

Daruma, the new izakaya-style restaurant from the team behind El Barrio and Bottega, has just launched a series of daily deals. During our recent visit, we were most impressed by the yakitori offerings, so we're looking forward to the half-price skewers on Tuesday evenings – don't miss the chicken meatball (pictured above), which comes glazed in reduced soy sauce alongside a soft egg yolk and a dollop of mascarpone to make it even more indulgent. Full details in the poster below.

If you're looking to try out Daruma in the day rather than the evening, then they have you covered as well with their newly-launched lunch specials. Tuck into a selection of good value noodle or rice bowls, or splash out on the tuna donburi, which features tuna, diced tam, and marinated salmon roe. All the sets come with pickles, mixed salad, miso soup, and grilled pork-wrapped asparagus. The lunch sets are available on weekdays from midday-3pm.

New Brunch Dishes at The Georg

If you're on the lookout for a summery brunch venue then you could do worse than The Georg's airy atrium. The restaurant has also just updated its brunch menu, adding new dishes with their signature modern northern European twist. Sample a selection of new baked goods such as black olive Comté cheese bread and caramel walnut almond danishes, before moving onto more substantial dishes like eggs with Japanese yellowfin tuna and colorful chioggia beets or baked beef tenderloin with leeks, (more) Comté cheese, and celery root puree. Read more about what's on offer via their official WeChat account here.
