EAT: Hongbaos and Hamburgers, Valentine's Day Breakfast in Bed, and Solid Gold Steaks

EAT: Your bite-sized guide to the best eats to be had in Beijing this week.

Valentine's Day breakfast in bed by Peach

Don't fancy braving a busy restaurant for Valentine's Day this year (although there are plenty of deals around if you do)? Why not treat the one you love to a fancy breakfast in bed courtesy of Peach by Hulu. Choose from a number of different gift boxes featuring romantic treats like handmade Belgian chocolates, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and hand-piped "I love you" cookies. To our minds, the best value is the RMB 298 "To Love & Be Loved" box, which has everything you need for a seriously indulgent breakfast, including gravlax sandwiches, croissants, a platter of cold cuts, and even a bottle of sparkling wine. Gold-encrusted wagyu beef at Migas Mercado

Go all out for the Year of the Ox with Migas Mercado's 24k gold encrusted wagyu beef steaks. Crazy? Yes. But do we love it? Also yes. There are four steaks to choose from, starting at RMB 1,098 for a 500g Chilean wagyu "picaña" and going all the way up to RMB 1,898 for a 1kg "Chuletón" rib-eye. All the steaks are served with fries.

Hongbaos and hamburgers at Side Street

During Spring Festival (Feb 8-18), Side Street is once again running their popular "hongbaos and hamburgers" event. The rules are simple: buy a hamburger and get a hongbao, which contains a chance to win free drinks, free burgers, discounts, and more. Hongbaos are included in takeaway orders too, so remember to head over and claim your prize.

Spring Festival specials at Q Mex

All Q Mex locations will be staying open for Spring Festival, offering a couple of festive dishes alongside their regular half-price specials. Try the crispy mussels tacos (RMB 85), which feature quick-fried mussels on a bed of chopped kale, drizzled with chipotle-tomato sauce and topped with cilantro chimichurri. For something more substantial, go for the pork belly and fillet steak fajitas (RMB 128 for both meats), served with sautéed peppers, onions, carrots, pickled onions, and red cabbage.
