EAT: Slow Boat x Susu Collab, Three Wine Dinners, Moka Bros x Land of Promise

EAT: Your bite-sized guide to the best eats to be had in Beijing this week.

Sail the Mekong with Slow Boat and Susu

Ok, so we might not actually be able to sail the Mekong at the moment, but we can at least get a taste of food from along the river with this new collaboration between Slow Boat and Susu. Icelandic cod, sriracha, and papaya from Susu meet Slow Boat's signature burger bun and chicken wings in just a few of the elements at play in this menu, which features three different dishes.

The star of the show is undoubtedly the Cod of Fish Burgers (RMB 65), featuring a fillet of lightly breaded Icelandic cod topped with papaya slaw and smothered in a sriracha tartar sauce. For something a little lighter, go for breaded cod bites (RMB 58) with that same tartar sauce or crispy, juicy chicken wings (RMB 60) tossed in a Vietnamese-inspired fish sauce glaze. The dishes are available at all Slow Boat locations. Favorite local restaurant brands collabing? We love to see it.

Moka Bros x Land of Promise Yogurt

Moka Bros has teamed up with trendy local dairy brand Land of Promise (北海牧场) for a pop-up menu showcasing both sweet and savory yogurt. They've used the savory yogurt in a lighter interpretation of the classic Caesar salad, swapping in kale, bacon, tomatoes, crispy wholewheat croutons, and cheesy yogurt dressing that replaces the usual heavy mayonnaise. Their strawberry yogurt bubble smoothie is not your average breakfast smoothie thanks to the addition of "cheese bubbles" that add a bit of extra texture. The menu is available at all Moka Bros branches until Nov 28.

New winter menu at Gung Ho! Pizza

Shake off the winter chill with Gung Ho! Pizza'a new warming witer menu. The menu makes the most of seasonal ingredients like figs, which appear in a fresh fig and chicken pizza with caramelized onions and a salmon and fig salad. For a real winter warmer calorie bomb, dig into the white wine cream sauce mussels, served in a hollowed out bread bowl. They've also got hot drinks, including classic mulled wine and an orange-infused hot dark chocolate. Get 20 percent off the new menu items every Friday.

Three wine dinners to choose from this week

Fancy going to a wine tasting dinner this week? Well, you're in luck because there are three (at least, we might not have caught them all) going on at restaurants across the city. First up, sample sauvignon blancs, pinot noirs, and more from historic New Zealand winery Gladstone Vineyard with winemaker Eddie McDougall at Ying Chinese Restaurant at Intercontinental Sanlitun this Thu, Nov 18. Try pairings like glazed Cantonese-style braised beef ribs with Gladstone Vineyard Dakins Road Pinot Noir 2019. Dinner is priced at RMB 800.

Also on Thu, Nov 18, head to Forno in Sanlitun Taikoo Li to sample wines from different regions and appelations from across Italy (supplied by China Wines and Spirits), paired with dishes like croquettes of mushroom risotto with black truffle or orecchiette pasta with slow-braised beef by Paolo Salvo. Dinner is priced at RMB 468 per person (RSVP to Marlon 136 9130 1734).

Finally, on Fri, Nov 19, compare Bordeaux and New World Wines (also from China Wines and Spirits) at Cinker Pictures, paired with a globetrotting menu with a Mediterranean bent. That dinner is priced at RMB 688 per person (check this post on Cinker's WeChat for more info).
