Pick Up a Beverage or Bite to Eat on the go from These Spots in Dongzhimen and Gulou

The recent in-house dining ban in Beijing and even more recent ban on bars and restaurants having outdoor furniture has been a big hit on many of Beijing’s local businesses. However, although dining-in isn’t allowed many bars and restaurants are still open, serving takeaway food and drinks direct from their doors, or in one case window.

So, if you’re out and about why not support a local business, especially important for those that don’t have waimai, and purchase a beverage to enjoy as you walk or have while perched somewhere nearby.

3 Little Pigs

Home to what I would say is one of if not the best burger in Beijing, 3 Little Pigs by Andy's Craft Sausages is offering an order and pick up service through the window of their restaurant. Simply knock on the window and they’ll open up and hand you a menu.

On the day I went they didn’t have any burgers available, so I went for a Philly Cheesesteak instead, which I’ve been wanting to try for ages, and I was not disappointed! If you also want to pick up some sausages or bacon to enjoy at home, you can also order from their website. They do real American and English style bacon which is a rare find in Beijing.

One of Beijing’s most unique gems, nugget is offering takeaway coffee, beer and cocktails. Although they’ve had to remove their outdoor seating you can still perch yourself down on the patio or step. This is the ideal place to pick yourself up a coffee if you’re in the area and at the moment nugget are running a special offer where any cup of coffee is the low price of RMB 15!

If you’d like a little something to take home with you there are also bottled cocktails available for RMB 40, which is great for someone like me who sucks at mixology.

El Nido @ The Other Place

Just a stone’s throw away from nugget, El Nido are also offering a takeaway service. With a wide variety of beers on tap there is plenty to choose from for any beer lovers amongst us. They’re currently only offering drinks to takeaway and have stopped selling food for the moment.

Although El Nido aren’t on any delivery apps, for those not wanting to venture out you can add a member of staff on WeChat and arrange an order and delivery instead. Just search for “elnido” on WeChat and you can find their official app for contact details.

Wiggly Jiggly's

Wiggly Jiggly’s Dongzhimen location is offering up their full food and drinks menu for takeaway. Although they’ve had to remove the handful of chairs outside they do have some convenient steps to perch on and enjoy the May weather.

They aren’t offering any specific discounts due to the closures but are offering their usual happy hour from 5pm-10pm, during which all cocktails are the cool price of RMB 29. As it's a less than a five minute walk from my house, I’ll definitely be making use of their takeaway cocktails!

Arrow Factory

Just off Liangma River, which if you’ve ventures their recently seems to become a bit of a hotspot over the May holiday, Arrow Factory are still open and selling food and drink. Up until the ban on furniture they did have a few tables and chair up front but now customers will have to make do with the steps. Alternatively, patrons can grab their drink to go and head down to sip it while enjoying views of the river.

Jing A

Another one for beer fans, Jing A’s branches are all offering both takeaway drinks and food which can be ordered and picked up in store. Now, as Jing A is available on waimai, you may be wondering why you would go in person. Well, if you decide to physically go to one of their locations, you have way more options to choose from! If there is a certain beer you’re hankering for which isn’t available on waimai you can head to one of their stores to get it instead.

Some of their newer options such as their new Bei Hai series, three of their beers aged in Peddler's Gin barrels. They’re also currently offering 20 percent off bottles and cans and 30 percent off growlers.
