Food Tours for Exploring Beijing Beyond Your Usual Eats
A key part of getting to know Beijing is getting to know its cuisine, and a great way to do that is through a food tour. Even if you've lived in the capital for a while, food tours are still a great way to discover new dishes, learn more about the culture behind them and perhaps even find yourself a new favorite restaurant. There are a few different companies here offering regular foodie outings, so here's a look at them along with guidance on how to book your next culinary adventure!
Lost Plate Food Tours

Lost Plate offers two daily food tours here in Beijing: the Beijing Hutong Breakfast Food Tour and the Beijing Evening Food Tour. The breakfast tour allows attendees to try 12 different dishes at six locations in the Beijing hutongs. You can expect everything from jianbing to lüdagun "rolling donkey", douzhir and other local delicacies. Plus, the tour even includes a visit to a Michelin-recommended restaurant. The dinner tour kicks off with a cold beer and then takes you to try a variety of Chinese dishes, including Beijing hot pot, a fish dish that was a favorite of Empress Cixi and more.
