Ten Spots to Dive Into Cheese Fondue
As the temperatures start to drop and there is even the whisper of snow in a week or two, it's time to get toasty and comfortable, and what's more comforting than a big bowl of creamy, melted cheese? Yes, it's the perfect time to indulge in cheese fondue and shamelessly devour a whole block of molten cheese without judgment. There are plenty of gooey and glorious options here in Beijing, so here's a look at ten spots.
Zarah

The return of winter sees the return of Zarah's Cheese Fondue, which is now available every day from 6pm. Their cheese fondue combines melted Swiss Gruyère and Emmentaler cheese with a hint of Kirsch (cherry schnaps). It also comes with bread, vegetables, cornichons, cherry tomatoes, pearl onions and pineapple for dipping. A set for two is RMB 338 and then RMB 169 for every additional person or RMB 108 for children (aged 6-12). If you're a real cheese fiend, you can also top up the cheese for RMB 108.

La Maison Lyonnaise

La Maison Lyonnaise's annual Wednesday All You Can Eat Cheese Fondue (RMB 188) is back once again for winter. Made with a blend of cheeses like Gruyère and Emmentaler melted together with white wine and garlic, the fondue comes served with crusty slices of baguette, fresh vegetables and other nibbles to dip in the creamy, cheesy goodness.

If you're looking for an Italian twist on cheese fondue, then abboCCa has you covered. Their Cheese Fondue (RMB 188) uses a mixture of Italian cheeses, and then you can choose from a variety of dipping options, including Italian cold cuts, veggies, focaccia, sausage, meatballs, tuna and more. Bistro 108's Cheese Fondue (RMB 188/set for one to two people) has also made a return for the season. Made with 300g of melted cheese, it's accompanied by cold cuts, crusty bread, potatoes and pickles. It's available every day from 5pm to 11pm.

La Taverne

Beijing stalwart La Taverne has been in Beijing for 20 years, and over that time, they've really perfected their Cheese Fondue. You can either get a mini fondue (RMB 168), which serves one person, or a fondue to share (RMB 498). Both come with baguette, broccoli, pommes de terre petites (small potatoes), jamón Serrano and cornichons.

Belgium restaurant Morel's Cheese Fondue (RMB 379) keeps things traditional with a blend of Swiss Gruyère and Swiss Emmentaler cheese. It then comes with a range of dipping options like potatoes, carrots, broccoli, bread and ham.

Located above the South German Bakery on Lucky Street, Bodensee Kitchen gives off strong rustic vibes, which are the perfect match for their Cheese Fondue (RMB 296/two people). It combines a variety of different Swiss cheeses and comes with “loads of” bread, potato, broccoli and pear. On Dianping, they currently have an amazing deal available until Dec 31, where you can get the fondue plus two drinks (including red, white or mulled wine) for only RMB 249 – less than the normal price of the fondue!

French restaurant Panorama has brought back its Cheese Fondue as part of its winter menu. A combination of classic French cheeses, it's served with chunks of bread, veggies, cold cuts, pickles and olives. If you're looking for even more cheese, their winter menu also has other cheesy dishes like Tarticlette, a combination of tartiflette and raclette, and their Galette Raclette.

Mediterranean restaurant The Roots does a Mini Cheese Fondue, which is perfect for sharing along with some of their other delicious dishes or, if you're a real cheese fan, eating solo! Their fondue is made with a variety of different cheeses and served with chunks of bread, pickles, broccoli and other nibbles for dipping.

A recent discovery of ours, Grande A'moo in Tongzhou launched their Cheese Fondue (RMB 188) at the start of November. It comes with some of your usual dipping options like veggies, pickles and cold cuts as well as some more unusual choices like fried chicken. While it may not be the most traditional cheese fondue, it's sure to still be a hit with cheese fans. The fondue isn't the only cheesy offering they've got, though.
