Treat Yourself with these Cheese and Cold Cut Boards

I'm a big fan of sharable food, and one of my favorite go-to things to share is a good cheese or cold cut platter. There are plenty of restaurants here in the capital offering up a variety of different cheese and carcuterie boards both for dine in or delivery.

Zarah

First up we have cafe bar Zarah in Gulou and their fantastic Cheese Platter (RMB 158). Unlike some of the others on this list, they specify exactly what cheeses you’ll get which are: gruyere, mozzarella, emmentaler, parmigiano, gouda and camembert. Along with the cheese it comes with grilled vegetables, olives, jam, honey nuts and bread. Alternatively you can switch it up to the Cheese and Cold Cut Platter (RMB 168) if you want some charcuterie too.

La Platea

Mediterranean restaurant La Platea have a number of different cheese and cold cut platter options. If you’re a group of a few people they have a Large Cold Cuts and Cheese Platter (RMB 178) or if you’re looking for just cheese, they have a Cheese Platter (RMB 98) and a few other different sizes and variations too.

Burge’s Bistro

On offer from Burge’s Bistro they have your usual Small (RMB 90) and Large (RMB 280) Charcuterie Plate, a Cheese Platter (RMB 280) or if you’re looking for something a bit more specific a Burrata and Parma Ham Plate (RMB 180).

Jing-A

Now, strictly speaking this isn’t a cheese and cold cut platter, but Jing-A’s InStreet location up in Wangjing offers up a classic Ploughman’s Lunch (RMB 100). The Jing-A version of this classic English dish brings together mature cheddar, ham, chicken liver pate, salami, chorizo, Branston pickle and bread. Pair it with their Worker's Pale Ale for a truly English touch.

Forno

As you’d expect from an Italian restaurant Forno offer cold cut platter featuring plenty of salami. Titled the Salumi Misti, for this platter you can choose between the Small (RMB 189) or the Large (RMB 299). It’s a variety of cold cuts along with parmesan shavings arugula, but if you want to add some additional cheese you can add Buffalo Mozzarella or Burrata for RMB 80.

Leo by Flo

If you’re not a big cheese fan and are just after some cold cuts then Leo by Flo have you covered. Their Charcuterie Platter (RMB 79) features pickled vegetables, parma ham, chorizo and garlic bread.

Ponte

Annie’s slightly more sophisticated sister restaurant Ponte have a Cheese Plate (RMB 138) which consists of five different kinds of cheese. They also have a Cold Cuts Plank in Small (RMB 168) or Large (288) featuring a mix of Italian cold cuts. It should be noted that if you’re ordering these via waimai, the prices are a little more than those for dining in.

Now, me an me Dad, we had a contest one time to see who could make the stinkiest cheese of us all. So I goes out, buys a chunk of limburger, slices and dices, wedges it between me bum-crack, tapes me bum-crack up with duct tape. Then I goes and labours for a coupla days, haulin in the hay bales, never mind Micky and Geza 's funny sneers about me waddle. I had bigger fish to fry. And waits. Patient I am.

Now Dad weren't no dummy, he gets a chunka bleu cheese, leaves it rotting in the sun for a day an two, and when the plasticity were ripe, smears it between his toes an wraps the whole thing up wi tinfoul.

So there we was, Dad hobbled, me waddled. Mixing us up some very stinky cheese.

Now we was a competitive lot, and he nor I wished to unencumber our respective body parts until the day of Judgement.

Finally, as Judges we agreed that Douglas and Lucille, our common callico Cats, should be the decisioners.

So I drops me drawers, unburdens me bum-crack in face of Douglas, whereupon he keels over dead. Likewise Dad unwraps week old foot wrapped blue cheese toes in face of Lucille, ... she keels over dead.

We called it a draw.

I am Doktor Aethelwise Snapdragoon.
