The Joy of Six: Dongsi

This month, we’ve checked out all the stops on Line 6 to tell you about the gems that you shouldn’t wait to discover in our station-by-station Going Underground special.

SELLING POINT
Islam and beer make for interesting bedfellows on these backstreets.

SCAVENGE
Fabric foragers will find rich pickings, whether for clothes or home fittings,
at Daxin Fangzhi, 100m east of the station on Chaoyangmennei Dajie.

GNAW
Golden King gets rave reviews from Dianping users who are fond of gnawing
on a fleshy bone.

REFLECT
Historians might enjoy a look at the Islamic manuscripts and architecture of
Dongsi Mosque, 100m south of the crossroads at 13 Dongsi Nandajie. Where
there is a mosque, there are usually good Xinjiang restaurants nearby. Try
Adaxi on Qianliang Hutong for soft nang bread, fried Xinjiang noodles and
RMB 2 lamb skewers. North of the crossroads on Longfusi Jie, Longfu Temple
also has its own “snack street.” Old-timey favorites like douzhi and lüdagun
are the order of the day here.

SIP
Offering almost 20 craft brews on draft, the Slow Boat Brewery Taproom
on Dongsi Batiao is the only bar in the vicinity. Alternatively, grab a bottle
of imported wine for under RMB 100 from the store at the northeast exit of
the subway.
