Fire at the Forbidden City
One of the towers of the Forbidden City caught fire on the weekend. At around 7pm on Saturday evening, nearby residents raised the alarm after noticing flames and thick smoke emerging from the northeast watchtower of the Palace Museum. Firefighters from the Forbidden City Fire Department and Dongcheng District rushed to the scene and had the situation under control in less then 10 minutes. One of the firefighters was reported as saying that the fire was caused by a spotlight on the second floor of the tower overheating. No damage was reported.
