A Club to Call Home: Lantern

Techno collective Acupuncture has made their reputation from parties thrown in other people’s venues. Now they have a club they can call home (perhaps literally – in addition to its nocturnal function, Lantern will serve as Acupuncture’s daytime studio and workshop).

There’s plenty of room to dance, but two bars neatly hem the space, leaving a handy barrier between dance floor and perimeter booths. The low ceilings and scorched-red color scheme add an extra dose of stripped-down intimacy.

Mixed drinks are RMB 35; the signature cocktails (from RMB 40) are fruity, fantastical creations with names like “Age of Innocence.”

Lantern and White Rabbit have injected a timely shot of adrenalin into Sanlitun’s nights, and it’ll be interesting to see how the two vie for the electronic crowd. For clubbers, good times lie ahead.
