How Much Is That Doggy In The Window? RMB 10 Million
China is fast overtaking the rest of the world as the largest luxury market, the largest art market and, well, any market where there's a chance for conspicuous consumption. We can now add the world's most expensive dog to China's spending power. At RMB 10 million, a Red Tibetan Mastiff named Big Splash has made the biggest splash ever when it comes to the cost of a dog. He overtakes the previous record which was from 2009 when another dog of the same breed, Yangtze River Number Two, went for RMB 4 million. The breed is popular as it is seen as one of the only true Chinese breeds of dog in the world and they have a tradition as a guard dog. What that really means is that it is too big to keep inside the Fourth Ring Road as it'll grow to much more than 30cm. Lastly, the buyer of the new record purchase? Apparently, he's a coal baron. Of course.
