Join the Joyride: Win Tickets to See Roxette
The year was 1986. Maradona was using his hands to avenge the Falklands, the Oprah Winfrey Show debuted and The Economist introduced the Big Mac Index. And over in Sweden, a little-known duo named Roxette were making their first forays onto the Swedish charts ... their first steps on the way to becoming international pop royalty. They told us that "it must have been love" and they were right (although they were ever so wrong about it being "over now"). A quarter of a century later, we're still humming their tunes: "The Look," "Listen to Your Heart" and "Joyride."
The best-selling duo perform in Beijing at the MasterCard Center on March 12. We've got a pair of tickets to give away. Read on to find out how you can win.
To win, simply answer the following question: Roxette was only the second Western band allowed to perform in China. In which year did that historic concert take place? Send your answer to win@thebeijinger.com by noon on Friday, March 9. The winners will be notified soon after. Good luck and in the meantime, enjoy this classic Roxette track.

No worries J... Queen were supposed to be on their way over but some really dodgy (but genius) promoter propaganda saw Wham getting the slots, a shame really because Wham had absolutely no musical influence on music in China (or Earth dwelling carbon based life forms in general), whereas Queen would have slingshot the music scene music forward.

We stand corrected. Thanks for pointing this out.
Jean Michel Jarre it is. That's a pretty strange first three gigs that China hosted: JMJ, Wham! and Roxette.
