Farewell to Wonderland: Amusement Park Ruins Demolished

Wonderland has been demolished.

No, not that one. Michael Jackson's amusement park and ranch is Neverland. Michael's not around anymore, although his property still is. Anyway, if you've ever been to the Badaling Great Wall, on the way you may have noticed a ghostly, half-finished, Disney's Magic Kingdom-looking construction.

Ground broke on the would-be Wonderland in 1996, and was slated to become the biggest theme park in Asia. However, two years later, work stopped when negotiations between local farmers and the project's developer, Reignwood Group, broke down over the purchase of land, and the builder walked away.

The land is apparently being cleared for a shopping mall, likely more wondrous in its retail offerings than the rides and refreshment stands of Wonderland could have ever delivered.
