View Finder: Scavenger Hunt Puts Your Camera Skills to the Test

Hey camera junkies, this Saturday is your chance to put your photography skills to the ultimate test. Beijing Photo Walks is organizing a photo scavenger hunt for charity, and they’re giving away some great prizes.

Here are the rules:

No.1: Enter the game (and make your friends do it too)

Put together a team of five photo fanatics and register with nic@beijingphotowalks.com. If you don’t have that many friends (with cameras), then let the organizers know, and they will put a team together for you. A team of five will need to put down RMB 500 and solo entries cost RMB 100.

No. 2: Stop living in the past

Anyone with a digital camera or smartphone camera is welcome to participate. Judging will be in real time, so ditch the analogue gadgets.

No. 3: Hone your Boy Scout instincts

On the day of, bring your team, or your lonely self, and camera to Brussels Bar and Restaurant. A list of tasks will be handed out. Read them, make a plan, suit up, go out there and get the job done. Each task completed will be worth a certain number of points. Get the most points and be the winner.

No. 4: Be an artist

Not much of a Boy Scout? Stray from your team now and then to take some personal shots. The more creative the images, the more prizes come your way. Now that’s artistic merit.

What’s at stake for participating, you ask?

All of these prizes are up for grabs:

  • A meal at Vasco’s fancy restaurant in Hilton Beijing Wanfujing
  • A photography workshop with Mitchell Masilun (staff photographer at True Run Media and leader of photography workshops at The Hutong)
  • Cameras from Spring Cameras
  • RMB 350 in bagels and bagel accessories from Tavalin Bagels
  • Memberships to the Hutong
  • A portrait shoot at Lotus Photography
  • A framed print of your choice sponsored by Cultural Keys
  • Two bottles of Vodka and two bottles of Grand Marnier from theBeijinger
  • High Quality Australian Wine from Reddy’s Wine Well

That’s quite the bundle, but no need to feel guilty if you win. All that money you put down to participate will go to ChunHui Bo'Ai Children's Foundation.

This is going to be quite the race, so start wiping your lenses.

Remember, you don't need to be professional or even have a camera - your smartphone will do! It's all for fun and a good cause!

And much love to analogue camera users, we didn't forget you but the nature of the event made it difficult for us to include film photographers unfortunately!
