The Hutong Hustle Instagram Photo Contest

Beixinqiao craft cocktail slingers Más and IgersBeijing will be holding an Instagram photo contest titled "The Hutong Hustle." They are calling on all local "photographers" to try to capture the essence of back alley life. It could be anything from the beautiful to the strange, but the only overriding rule is that it must be set in the hutongs of Beijing.

All of the images selected will be printed and displayed at  Más, then there will be an opening held on Friday, March 21. Make sure to post your pictures to Instagram using the hashtag #TheHutongHustle. The contest is open to new and old images, and each person is limited to three submissions, so choose wisely. The deadline for submissions will be March 1 at midnight.

Prizes include RMB 150 in Más credit for the best image, RMB 100 credit for second place, and one free happy hour drink for anyone whose work is selected for exhibition. This is an exciting opportunity to show off your playful photo habits in a friendly and collaborative exhibition.

bumblebeetou,

Maybe, but I suppose you'll never know unless you come back and check. We do hope you manage to locate and follow any requisite link to enable you to do that. Your continued use of the website and your insightful input is always very much appreciated.

As for the point you very cleverly make, I think "stolen" without scare quotes is quite sufficient in the case you describe. Of course, I would always prefer "borrowed".

Have a wonderful day.

Lighten up "BumbleBeeTou". Or are you actually a real bumblebeetou? In which case, please excuse the " ".

You could follow the link (very kindly provided for you by Mr. Whittaker) and head along to the official igersbeijing instagram account (I provided it for you again just there if you don't want to go to the trouble of scrolling back up this page. You're very welcome). Maybe if you follow them you can learn all you wish to know about the competition. I notice they even have an email address on there. Perhaps you could email them directly about your queries.

It might not be of much use to you, though. You'd likely want someone to head through the hutongs taking your submissions for you.

Very best of luck if someone does enter for you.

Fair enough on the info link. I should have clicked before commenting. Can't disagree with that.

However, I would still say my point about the apparent condescending tone, through the use of "photographers", as if someone who uses a phone to take photos is not a real photographer, is a valid one.

As for entering, you're right, I probably won't, I'm too much of an uncool, out of shape fat b@stard for something like that.

Of course, I'm sure if I want to see the calibre of the work of those who do enter, I can just come to your blog after/during the event and see the images you would have stolen from said entrants, and just used without permission or credit.

Or should I say, "stolen"? That's how it's used, right?

What's your issue, that you think it's necessary to use "" when talking about Instagram photographers?

There's no offense that needs to be taken. Any fedora-wearing person wearing tight pants participating in this contest will more than likely prefer to be called a "snapster" than anything else.

EDIT: Quotation marks left in.

What's your issue, that you think it's necessary to use "" when talking about Instagram photographers?

Also, are there any other terms and conditions? Such as usage of the photos once submitted?

Or are Igers only explaining this whole contest through your Blog post?
