Dick Sonnet: Don't Miss Beijing Broads' All-Female Comedy and Improv Show at Palms LA Kitchen, Apr 12

In the continuing fight against the common misconception that women can't be funny, Beijing Broads' free all-female comedy night at Palms LA Kitchen and Bar in Liangma Qiao, April 12 at 8pm, will bring the city down to its knees with laughter.

We spoke to one of the organizers, Kyrie Gray, to find out more about why this show will be different, and what to expect.

"For the improv, it's still pretty much the same. It's fun, off the cuff, and relies on solid teamwork. But there is definitely another dynamic when you have an all female improv team. I would say there are less inhibitions, we can be any character or sex. There is no risk that someone will pigeonhole us into a love interest or a wife."

"Whatever the reasons for that, I think having a space for women to feel strong and supported while honing skills is important. Also it's true the improv is all female, but the sketch comedy is open to female and male collaboration. As you'll see on Tuesday."

As a result of the nature of improv, we couldn't get much of a look into what to expect on Tuesday, but, "prepare to see things like Dick Sonnet as well as other feminist- and Beijing-inspired pieces."

If you're not involved now but would like to be in the future: "We are welcoming to women who want to write, produce, act, in sketches to reach out! We hope this grows and becomes a consistent thing. Anyone ladies who like improv and has been wanting to give it a try hopefully will reach out as well."
