Treat Yourself With These Four Chic Jewelry-Themed Beijing Afternoon Teas

The festive season is here, and with it, you may have a little extra cash to burn (or at least a burning desire to treat yourself). Luckily, these local hotels and restaurants sense your excitement and have put together a number of jewelry-themed afternoon teas so that you can share the love.

First on the list, InterContinental Beijing Sanlitun has teamed up with French jewelry brand Franck Herval to present their Symphony Afternoon Tea, available until the end of the month. This three-layered set includes various interestingly designed sweets such as chocolates shaped like high heels and diamonds as well as a rainbow sponge cake, Napoleon cakes, salmon and prawn canapés, tomato and mozzarella, an apple-shaped cream, a gem-like lollipop, snow-flaked candy, and raspberry tarts topped with a pearl-like decorations are also available. You can choose from hot drinks such as tea, coffee, and mulled wine. It is available between 2.30-5.30pm until Dec 31 at Top Tapas. RMB 368 per person, call 8516 0067 for reservations.

Good things should come in pairs and Rosewood Beijing joins China’s notable Bao Bao Wan Fine Jewelry to launch an exquisite afternoon tea that runs until Jan 31. Based on Wan’s “And the Little Ones” collection, executive pastry chef Florian Couteau and his team present a number of delicate savory and sweet delights such as Sichuan pepper and caramel sweets, donuts with rose icing, a yogurt mousse with hawthorn and apple jelly filling, a lantern-shaped dessert filled with vanilla ganache, a cranberry compote, and rice wine. The lobster devilled egg sandwich seasoned with crab row and the grilled shallot and mini ciabatta are the highlights among the savory options. This afternoon tea costs RMB 228 and is available between 2-6pm until Jan 31 at Bistrot B Lounge and Bar and includes a cup of coffee or tea. You can also spend RMB 328 and receive an additional glass of Champagne or whisky punch. Call 6536 0066 for reservation.

Not everyone can travel to New York for a dream wedding dress fitting at Vera Wang but you may be able to afford a similarly luxurious afternoon tea. That's because Waldorf Astoria Beijing has partnered up with luxury wedding brand Vera Wang to launch an afternoon tea set in their Peacock Lounge that features savories, and pastries such as cranberry scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream, beetroot crepes with roasted Beijing duck, and crispy spring rolls and caviar, all complete with a distinctive red theme inspired by the New York-based designer Vera Wang’s iconic red Katherine gown. Highlights are the Waldorf’s signature red velvet cake in lipstick shape, mini raspberry macaroons, the raspberry chocolate truffles, and red dress cookies. The afternoon tea set costs RMB 468 (plus 15 percent service charge per set) for two and runs until Mar 11, 2018. Call 8520 8989 for reservations.

Finally, in Sanlitun you can lap up this winter's sunshine without burning a hole in your wallet at Infrarouge's RMB 128 afternoon tea. It features a pot of tea, and 10 selected sweets, including two mini choux with cherry cream, a Canelés de Bordeaux, six matcha madeleines, tangerines, and chocolates, paired with three jams. Go with a friend and spend RMB 208 for two pots of tea with 16 sweets. This set is available between 2.30-5pm.
