Sep 18: Q Mex Bar and Grill soft opens in World City

Guomao-based fans of Q Mex's signature blend of tasty Mexican cuisine and upbeat atmosphere, rejoice, because the Mexican bar and grill soft opens in World City (the buildings on the north side of The Place) this Wednesday, Sep 18. As well as extensive seating inside, this new branch also has a terrace with seating for 60, covered with an automatic cover in case of bad weather. They will be serving a soft opening menu from Sep 18-Oct 1, after which time you can expect a new food and drink menu exclusive to the World City branch, including the Blackflower Margarita (pictured above), which includes tequila, Cointreau, and fresh lime juice, topped with Q Mex's classic red wine sangria.

The new address and hours are: Daily, 11am-2am. 1/F, Bldg E, World City, Chaoyang District (6500 8220) 朝阳区中骏世界城E座

Nooxo closes in The Crib

Sad news for fans of healthy, hearty food: purveyor of grain bowls and smoothies Nooxo has closed after three years in business. In a statement on WeChat, owner Jay put the closure down to "external circumstances" and thanked the local staff, chef, and investor who made the project happen. We'll miss their tasty-yet-healthy dishes, especially the spicy Lost in Thailand bowl.

Sep 21: Wing Fest at Plan B's beer garden

There are probably few better ways to spend a Saturday afternoon than sipping beers and working your way through a big pile of chicken wings. It seems like Plan B very much agree with us, as they have joined up with four other local venues to put on the very first Wing Fest in their beer garden this Saturday, Sep 21. Plan B will be doing buffalo wings and Sriracha-honey wings, The Local will be doing Buffalo, Sichuan, and lemongrass wings, Caravan will be doing (Carolina) Reaper and lemon pepper wings (and maybe a vegetarian option), Side Street will be doing Buffalo and Indian chili wings, and Three Little Pigs will be making spicy Cajun wings. The event runs from midday-6pm and you can get two wings for RMB 15.

Sep 21: Mexican dining and drinks pairing with Jimena Ortega Romero

This Mexican dinner at The Hutong offers an intimate dining experience, giving you the opportunity to learn the ancient story, preparation, and secrets of Mexican dishes such as esquites (boiled and then fried corn kernels), mole, and arroz con leche, all paired with two Mexican spirits – tequila and mescal. Engage with host Jimena as she introduces the background and inspiration behind each course.
