Beijing is a happening city! Don't miss a thing with our weekend roundup of the latest news.

City's Bus to Subway Transfers to Be Shortened? Beijing’s public transit authority says they intend to strengthen bus and other road-based public transport in areas with insufficient subway and rail coverage. By doing this, the hope is that transferring from bus to subway and vice versa will make for an easier commute throughout the city. According to preliminary surveys, more than 1000 bus stations are being looked at to see how the transfer times from bus stops to nearby subway lines can be shortened.

Central Axis Undergoes Further Development: Project designs for what’s been dubbed the South Central Axis International Culture and Technology Park, which was officially unveiled last December, have passed project approval. The first phase of the new park is slated to be opened sometime this year, and will be ready for use by 2023.

Cherry Blossoms in Bloom at Yuyuantan Park: April is peak season for cherry blossoms at Yuyuantan Park on Beijing’s west side. Best spots for viewing include what’s been dubbed the “Kilometer Cherry Embankment” or by simply taking a boat out on the park’s lake.

Beijing Botanical Garden Fills Up with Tulips: The city’s botanical garden is gearing up for the Tulip Culture Festival. Lasting from Apr 13 to mid-May, tourists can enjoy nearly 15,000 square meters of more than 300,000 tulips in bloom. Along with viewing flowers, there are also a number of exhibitions and activities taking place during the festival, like food showcases and family-oriented games.
