Side Street Set to Open New Location in Jianguomen

After months of delays -- the oringal plan was to open back at the end of March, but this was pushed back thanks to Covid-related delays -- Side Street is finally set to open a new location not far from Guomao in Jianguomen, with their official soft opening to begin this Saturday, Jul 9 at noon.

Located behind Nola, just south of Ritan Park, their north entrance boasts a large terrace area that’s the perfect spot for catching some afternoon rays. Step inside and you’re greeted by the telltale Side Street sign and signature Side Street scene -- a squatting guy with a squatting burger. To the right is their large seating area, with smaller tables up at the front and a line of larger tables along the far right side set against a strip of plush leather couches set against the wall.

The focal point of the whole room is a large sleek, square bar that sits right in the center.  The open space and layout creates a very inclusive feeling and you can already tell that it’s going to be an especially great setup for a bit of mingling.

On the south side they have what will become a second terrace area, complete with an outside bar. However, they are currently still waiting for the renovations to be finished so unfortunately this might not be available until next spring.

Now, it wouldn’t be Side Street without some burgers and at their new location they will be serving up wagyu beef burgers for the first time. They are going to have a whole new meat range at the Jianguomen branch, offering up pork ribs and skewers. For those vegans or vegetarians they will also have plenty of options available and the new menu will have a variety of salads, curries and bowls, making it an ideal lunch spot for those working in the CBD area.

As for alcoholic beverages, there will be numerous craft beers on tap from some of Beijing’s best breweries. For other drinks, they’re keeping it relatively simple with their cocktails, offering the usual mixed drinks but with a focus on gin and tonics and Aperol spritz.

Aside from Nola, which has been in the area for a number of years, Side Street’s new location is the first bar to open in what is set to become one of Beijing’s newest happening places. A number of cafes, bars and restaurants are set to open up along the same strip and us here at the Beijinger are excited to see just what is in store.
