Where to Get Second Covid Booster Shots, If You're Eligible
China rolled out its second booster shot for Covid back in December, but questions have arisen about whether it's still necessary for people who have already been infected with the virus. The latest guidelines from China's CDC stipulate that a second booster shot is primarily intended for communities who haven't been infected before and fall into one of four categories: those at high risk of infection, elderly people over 60, people with serious underlying diseases, and those with low immunity. After reaching out to several hospitals, we can confirm that eligible communities who have not been infected with Covid can receive the second booster shot. The hospitals also confirmed that the China CDC has specific categories for those who should get the booster shot.
For individuals who have been infected with Covid and have fulfilled primary vaccination requirements – completing the initial dose, the follow-up dose, and the first booster shot – receiving a second booster is now considered unnecessary, per the CDC's recently released guidelines. Several healthcare institutions, including Raffles Medical, have confirmed that these individuals will no longer be eligible to get a second booster shot.
We previously reported that China has updated its recommended interval time for a booster shot from six to three months, according to a report by the Global Times. While Hongkong International Medical Clinic and OASIS International Hospital both confirmed the new guidelines, most hospitals still require six months between shots.
