Migas Mercado Suddenly Closes

Yesterday, Migas Mercado announced that after 15 years in Beijing, they would be closing. Although this was shocking news in itself, perhaps more shocking was that the closure would be almost immediate, with them officially closing their doors at midnight last night (Nov 11).

Another big blow to Beijing F&B industry, the announcement follows a flurry of other recent closures, including TRIBE Nutrition and CHEERS' Sanyuanqiao branch. However, the timing of Migas shutting its doors hits particularly hard because it was only a few weeks ago, from Oct 17 to 18, that Migas celebrated its 15th anniversary with two of their signature DJ parties.

In the closure announcement, they stated:

"After 15 incredible years Migas Mercado closes its doors.

This moment came sooner than we expected. While rising costs forced our hand, we refuse to let this day be about endings. Instead, we want to celebrate the memories we made together.

To our party family: You turned our restaurant into a destination for epic nights. From sunrise sets on the terrace to those electric nights where the whole dining room became a dance floor.

To the friends and families who made us a monthly tradition, the couples who met over paella, the 老北京 who learned to dance to house music—join us one last time.

Tonight only: We're pouring every last bottle, spinning one final playlist, and keeping the kitchen open until the very end. No reservations, no formality.

Our doors close at midnight. Until then, let's make this the farewell Migas deserves.

谢谢 for 15 years of magic."

Migas first opened in 2010 in the now-demolished Nali Patio and quickly built up a stellar reputation as one of the top nightlife spots in Sanlitun during their time there. In 2017, they relocated to the China World Mall, occupying a prime spot on the top floor. Their stunning terrace with unbeatable panoramic views of the CBD made it one of Beijing's most Instagrammable destinations.

Over the years, they've become renowned for their sumptuous Spanish and Mediterranean offerings, curated by head chef Miguel Zapata. However, it was perhaps their epic DJ nights and massive terrace parties that were the biggest draw, collaborating with groups like Natural Flavor, LTN, WILDKATS and more.

The closure of Migas will surely leave a black hole in the hearts of many in Beijing, and we here at the Beijinger are certainly saddened to see one of the capital's F&B stalwarts bid adieu
