Beijing News: Temperature Drop & Baby Formula Recall
Beijing is a happening city! Don't miss a thing with our weekend roundup of the latest news.
Temperatures to Fall Over the Weekend

Temperatures in Beijing are set to drop sharply this weekend, with Saturday daytime temps reaching a high of only 1 C and nighttime temps reaching a low of -9 C. This will hold steady into Sunday, with temperatures only beginning to rise moving into Monday. The high over the first few days of next week is expected to remain steady at 3 C, even as nighttime lows rise. Thursday and Friday highs will increase slightly, with lows falling once more.
Nestlé Issues Baby Formula Recall

The Nestlé corporation recently initiated a voluntary, precautionary European recall of some of its infant formula products, including those under the SMA, Alfamino and BEBA labels. These measures come after cereulide, a toxin produced by some bacterial strains and that can cause nausea and vomiting when ingested, was detected in an ingredient from one of the company’s suppliers.
Upon urging from the Food Safety Office of the State Council and the State Administration for Market Regulation, Nestlé extended the recall to China. As of yet, there are no reports of illnesses resulting from contact with contaminated products, and the company maintains that its other products, and baby formula products with batch codes that are not included in the current recall, are safe.
For more information on the global recall, including information about which batch numbers are affected by the recall, consumers can visit Nestle’s website. Search for “recall” in the search field at the top right of the home page, or click on the “Ask Nestlé” button in the top, horizontal row of options, then click on “Products and brands” from the vertical menu, and then click on the green block that says “Infant formula product advisory.”
There is a list of FAQs that provides more information. Scroll down to see a list of countries and markets where a recall has been issued. Under the “Asia, Africa and Oceania region” you will see link options for China. This will bring you to a page (in Chinese) that lists the recalled products and their product numbers. Locate the product numbers on formula products you may have in your possession, and compare them to the listed affected products.
