Three Things for the Week Ahead in Beijing (Jan 19-Jan 25)

There's a new seasonal burger landing at Slowboat, a free Chinese class from Culture Yard and a Rumble Salon Astral Edition this week in Beijing. 

Eat – New Seasonal Burger at Slowboat

Slowboat is back with their Seasonal Burger Series, and this time they've embraced traditional Chinese flavors, creating the Laba Garlic Burger. For those not in the know, laba garlic (腊八蒜 làbāsuàn) is a dish made by pickling garlic cloves in vinegar. It's typically eaten during the Laba Festival, which falls on the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month in the Chinese lunar calendar.

For their Laba Garlic Burger, Slowboat has made a special sauce combining laba garlic with sesame paste and pairs it with a 100 percent imported beef patty and fresh red onion rings inside one of their brioche buns. As an added surprise, the burger also comes with a small side of laba garlic for an extra flavor boost. 

The Laba Garlic Burger will be available from Jan 19 until Feb 15 at all Slowboat locations.

Learn – How to Order at a Cafe in Simple Chinese, Free Online Class by Culture Yard 

Culture Yard will be doing a free online class this Wednesday (Jan 21) from 6pm to 6.50pm called "How to Order at a Cafe in Simple Chinese." The class will cover different types of coffee and beverages, how to explain different preferences when ordering and the basic phrases needed when ordering.

Refuel – Rumble Salon Vol. 5: Astral Edition at Side Street Jianguomen

Next Saturday (Jan 24), Rumble in the Jumble is back with one of their Rumble Salons. This time around, it's an Astral Edition to welcome in the Year of the Horse. The salon is all about refuelling and finding clarity for the year ahead. At the Salon, they'll have tarot, reiki, 望炁 (wàng qì), live sketching and planners, crystals, an immersive color room, a swap station, self-love potions and more.
