City Sees Garbage Disposal Upgrades
In furtherance of its goal to improve the tidiness and convenience of garbage disposal, Beijing has implemented a plan to build box-style disposal points in communities, in addition to the 7,794 smart recycling machines in 4,624 communities that have been set up across the city so far. There are also plans to develop a mini program (京彩回收 “Jingcai Recycling”) to help the public with waste disposal by allowing bookings for door-to-door collection of large items and convenient trading of recyclables.
As the year progresses, some city districts will carry out the pilot program to improve the quality of waste classification disposal points. They will build box-style distribution points, increase storage space and solve problems such as mosquitoes, odors, and overflowing garbage. Smart recycling machines will also be combined with the box-style disposal points.
Beijing to Get New Marine Theme Park – “Largest in Asia”
Construction has begun on the Beijing Haichang Ocean Park (北京海昌海洋公园), a new marine theme park coming to Tongzhou District. The facility will be the only new large-scale marine theme park to be built in Beijing after 2000, and upon completion, it will become the largest marine theme park in China.
The marine park complex is expected to include an aquarium as well as spaces for interactive and performance functions, and art. There will also be a marine-themed hotel. There will be two super theaters, the Whale and Dolphin Theater and the Happy Theater, and a variety of polar and large marine and land-dwelling creatures.
Beijing Haichang Ocean Park continues the trend of innovative facilities dedicated to science popularization in the city. It is expected to open to the public in 2027. The Tongzhou park will be located near Beijing Universal Resort and subway Line 7’s Gaoloujin station (高楼金站).
