Grilled: Feast Don't Want None Unless You've Got Buns, Hun

As part of the Beijinger's month-long Burger Cup (which kicked off May 16 with burger specials around town), we take a closer look at some of this year's participants. Today we're grilling Mina Yan, communications manager at EAST, Beijing, one of the many restaurants vying for the Burger Cup championship (voting for which is underway).

Feast (Food by EAST) sets themselves apart from the other burgers around town by adding a little bit of down-under flair to their burgers. "In Australia its common to have a slice of beetroot in the local burgers and here our executive chef Rob Cunningham adapted the Australian flavor to our burger. We add a layer of beetroot chutney that gives the burger a sweet and uniquely Australian flavor," Mina Yan said. That layer of beetroot chutney is what Feast believes makes it the best burger in Beijing.

Coming in at RMB 118, the EAST Burger comes with a generous serving of freshly cut fat fries, and when asked specifics about buns the lyrics to "Anaconda" came out. We can appreciate that, as, speaking from personal experience, the EAST Burger is a little bit like a party in your mouth.

As for the meat, "all the beef used at EAST, Beijing is imported from Australia. For the burger we chose to use Wagyu beef to give the burger an especially tender texture," Yan tells us. This is key, with the meat being one of the most important ingredients of burgers.
