Du Good: Popular Bento-Box Lunch Sets in the CBD
With a head chef from Edomae Sushi, a favorite with the local Japanese community, Du features lunch sets (RMB 25-80) so popular that Club Du downstairs is occasionally used to seat the overflow.
The 24 bento-box options range from ramen to sushi to pork; all are balanced out with salad, soup and fruit. Try the roasted eel (RMB 35) or roasted mackerel (RMB 30) over rice, both of which are cooked perfectly: the former soft and sweet, the latter juicy but properly salted.
Dinner traffic languishes due to higher prices, but if you hang out at Du before a screening at Stellar International Cineplex – which is located a few doors down and shares an owner – you may see Chinese directors and movie stars downing a seaweed cocktail (RMB 28), a shooter including sweet vinegar and raw quail egg, served in a champagne flute.
